March 17, 2016
No matter what your unique family law situation may be, hiring the right attorney for your case can make all the difference. You want to work with an attorney that understands the issues you are facing and is confident in representing you. For this reason, it’s important to interview any potential attorney before hiring them.
You may want to come with a list of questions. Some very important questions have to do with finances. Here are just a few:
–How much is the retainer?–How will I be billed for emails and phone calls?–Is the retainer refundable if we reconcile?–Is the unused part of the retainer refundable if I want to work with another attorney?–Will there be assistants working on my case and if so, how much do they charge?
It’s also important to ask questions about the attorney’s experience and how he or she handles cases. For example, you may want to ask the following:
–How many cases have you tried?–What are your feelings about mediation?–Do you feel comfortable with the unique circumstances of my case?–How many years have you been practicing and what portion of your cases relate to family law?–If I call you, how quickly should I expect an answer?–Will you forward all important paperwork to me during the divorce?
There are just some of the questions you may want to ask when you are interviewing an attorney. Finding the right attorney to represent you during your divorce can help you make sure you get the outcome you deserve.
