Group Offers Advice in Order to Help Avoid EB-5 Fraud
Feb. 2, 2017
The United States government offers a variety of visa programs to allow hopeful immigrants an opportunity to make a new life in this country. However, there are also opportunities for misuse of some of these programs. There may be some immigrants here in New York who have fallen victim to EB-5 fraud.
Recently, a self-described watchdog association with Wall Street affiliations has offered to investigate opportunities that may attract foreign investors. These opportunities can occasionally appear to be a solid investment for those looking to qualify for the EB-5 visa. Often, these opportunities are offered through regional centers that can seem to be more financially stable since they are comprised of a larger number of investors.
Unfortunately, according to this Wall Street group, there are circumstances that end with an investor losing some or all of his or her money. This association has alluded to the idea that there is the potential for U.S. development companies to offer incentives to foreign nationals to guide hopeful investors into select projects in an alleged attempt to defraud them. Purportedly, there are centers that feature projects that an investor from this country would not get involved in, yet these are touted to immigrants as sound propositions.
This organization expressed the opinion that this visa program can be a good path for investors as long as they have an impartial source for information about each project up for consideration. New York immigrants who believe they have been victims of EB-5 fraud do have the right to seek assistance from qualified resources. An attorney who specializes in this type of immigration law can prove to be an invaluable source of information and guidance in these unfortunate situations.
